Rainy days & when to book

🌧️ Rainy-day rental advice

Kyoto's rainy season runs around June–July. Kanwa lends umbrellas and rain covers for the zori sandals, and the kimono is dressed to hold its shape. Plan indoor routes if rain is forecast.

📅 When to book

Cherry blossom and autumn foliage are the two busiest windows — book 1–2 weeks ahead for the best morning slots. Outside peak seasons, a few days' notice is usually enough.

Questions visitors ask before booking

Is summer yukata better than kimono in Kyoto?

For June-August, yes — yukata is lighter, more breathable and designed for Kyoto's hot summers. It's also the traditional choice for Gion Matsuri and fireworks festivals.

What should I wear for cherry blossom season?

Soft pinks, whites and pastel kimono harmonize with the blossoms; deep colors contrast dramatically. A regular kimono works well in the mild April weather, and furisode photographs beautifully.

How early should I book for autumn leaves?

Autumn foliage (mid-November to early December) is Kanwa's busiest season. Book 1-2 weeks ahead for the best time slots, especially at the Kiyomizu-dera store near Eikando.

Can I wear kimono on rainy days?

Yes. Kanwa provides umbrellas and rain covers for the zori sandals, and the kimono is dressed to stay in place. Indoor routes like temples and covered streets are good rainy-day choices.

Is winter kimono rental comfortable?

Yes — Kanwa offers warm layering under the kimono for Kyoto's winter temperatures (averaging about 5°C in January). Snow scenes at Kinkaku-ji make memorable photos with very few crowds.

Reserve your preferred time before visiting Kiyomizu-dera or Gion.
